Hardy Nickerson Jr.
Defensive Specialist, Winning Edge
Hardy Nickerson Jr. (H2) serves as a Defensive Specialist for Winning Edge, where he works with athletes to develop football IQ, linebacker play, and complete defensive understanding rooted in high-level playing and coaching experience.
He also serves as the Defensive Coordinator at JSerra Catholic High School, entering his first season in 2026. Prior to JSerra, he coached linebackers at Palos Verdes High School in 2025 and spent three seasons (2022–2024) as the Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers Coach at his alma mater, Bishop O’Dowd High School in Oakland, California.
As a player, Nickerson was a standout linebacker at Bishop O’Dowd High School, earning All-CIF and Semper Fidelis All-American honors. He went on to play at University of California, Berkeley, where he was a three-year starter, team captain, and All-Pac-12 performer. He completed his collegiate career at University of Illinois, earning team captain honors and All-Big Ten recognition.
Nickerson graduated from Cal with a degree in Legal Studies and earned his master’s degree in Sport Management from Illinois while playing five seasons in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals, Minnesota Vikings, and Houston Texans.
Nickerson Jr. has a deep passion for development and is a true student of the game, constantly sharpening his knowledge to fulfill his purpose of giving back to the game through coaching and mentorship.
He brings a unique combination of playing and coaching experience, along with a passion for developing disciplined, high-IQ defensive players.

Founder, Winning Edge
Hardy Nickerson Sr. serves as the Founder and Linebacker Specialist for Winning Edge, where he works with athletes and coaches to develop elite football IQ, leadership, and defensive excellence built on decades of experience at the highest levels of the game.
He also serves as the Head Football Coach at JSerra Catholic High School, competing in the Trinity League, widely regarded as the most competitive high school football league in the country.
Nickerson brings over 40 years of football experience as both a player and coach. His NFL career spanned 16 seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Green Bay Packers, where he established himself as one of the premier middle linebackers of his era. His accolades include being named to the NFL All-Decade Team of the 1990s, earning 5 Pro Bowl selections, 4 First-Team All-Pro honors, and serving as a 9-time team captain.
As a player at University of California, Berkeley, Nickerson was a 3-time team MVP and First-Team All-Pac-10 selection, finishing his career with 501 total tackles and later being inducted into the Cal Athletic Hall of Fame.
Following his playing career, Nickerson transitioned into coaching at both the NFL and collegiate levels, including time with the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as well as serving as Defensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach at University of Illinois. At the high school level, he has led multiple championship programs, including a CIF State Championship.
Beyond football, Nickerson is also the President of Hardware Productions and an advocate for leadership, mentorship, and community impact. His legacy extends beyond the field through his commitment to developing the next generation of athletes and leaders.

Amy Nickerson
Education Consultant, Winning Edge
Amy Nickerson serves as the Educational consultant for Winning Edge, where she supports student-athletes in navigating the academic landscape, ensuring NCAA compliance, and building strong foundations for long-term educational success.
She also serves as a Faculty Advisor for CalStateTEACH, a California State University teacher preparation program, where she supervises and supports teacher candidates through clinical practice, providing individualized coaching, feedback, and guidance aligned with California Teaching Performance Expectations.
Amy holds a Master’s degree in Education from the University of California, Berkeley, with a focus on athletics and academics, as well as language, literacy, and culture. H She also earned her B.A. in Afro-American Studies and Social Sciences from Cal.
Her professional background includes extensive experience supporting student-athletes and families with academic planning, college recruitment, and long-term educational strategy. She has also served as a college adjunct instructor, teaching courses on athletes and the educational system at the University of Illinois-Champaign- Urbana.
In addition to her work in education, Amy is the bestselling author of How Do You See Us?, a book exploring race, perception, and social justice through storytelling and critical reflection.
Amy brings a deep commitment to equity, mentorship, and student success, ensuring Winning Edge athletes are supported not only on the field, but in the classroom and beyond.
